JR Rail Pass (Green car) is exclusive for foreign visitors to Japan, and offers unlimited use of JR trains for 7-days, 14-days or 21-days. Green car pass is a fist class car which offers more seats that are comfortable, spacious and tend to be less crowded compared to ordinary car (available on most all shinkansen and tokkyu trains). Seats must be reserved in advance at the JR ticket office.
It is applicable for all JR trains – Shinkansen “bullet trains”, limited express trains, express trains, rapid or local trains, Tokyo Monorail (to/from Haneda Airport), local lines of JR Bus (excluding some local lines. Pass validity for particular routes will be subject to changes) (JR Bus: JR Hokkaido Bus, JR Bus Tohoku, JR Bus Kanto, JR Tokal Bus, West Japan JR Bus, Chugoku JR Bus, JR Kyushu Bus) and JR-WEST Miyajima ferry. The pass is not applicable for “NOZOMI” and “MIZUHO” service and express bus routes operated by JR Bus companies.

- Eligible for foreign tourist entering in Japan as a "Temporay Visitor" for sight-seeing, and has a passport(issued by a foreign government) stamped with status under “Temporary Visitor”.
- Please note that according to strict interpretation of the Japanese Immigration Law, “Temporary visitor” status differs even from other types of stays that are also for only short time periods.
- Japanese passport holders can NOT use this pass. (May require to present passport and documents for verification purpose)
- ONLY allowed for original Exchange Orders which have not activated are allowed for refund within 12 months from the issuance date. Exchange order is totally non-refundable once exchanged and used.
The refund process will take approximately 2 months or more to be completed.
To exchange date of the pass, once the pass has been obtained, can no longer be changed.

- All JR Group Railways-Shinkansen(bullet trains), limited express trains, express trains, rapid or local trains and BRT(Bus Rapid Transit) *With some exceptions
- HIKARI, SAKURA, KODAMA, or TSUBAME trains
- Tokyo Monorail
- Local lines of JR Buses operated by JR Hokkaido Bus, JR Tohoku Bus, JR Bus Kanto, JR Tokai Bus, West Japan JR Bus, Chugoku JR Bus, JR Shikoku Bus, JR Kyushu Bus
(*Exclude some local lines. Pass validity for particular routes is subject to change)
- JR-WEST Miyajima ferry between Miyajima and Miyajimaguchi
*Aoimori Railway services between Aomori and Hachinohe. However, travel must be on local or rapid service trains encompassing the segments between Hachinohe and Aomori, Aomori and Noheji, and Hachinohe and Noheji.
Travel is not covered if disembark at any other station on the Aoimori Railway line other than Aomori, Noheji and Hachinohe.
*The IR Ishikawa Railway Line between Kanazawa and Tsubata. However, travel must be conducted on local or limited express trains and must encompass the full segment between these two stations.
Travel is not covered if you disembark at any station on the IR Ishikawa Railway line, within or outside the segment (excluding Kanazawa or Tsubata).
*The Ainokaze Toyama Railway Line between Toyama and Takaoka. However, travel must be conducted on local trains and must encompass the full segment between these two stations.
Travel is not covered if you disembark at any station on the Ainokaze Toyama Railway line, within or outside the segment (excluding Toyama or Takaoka).
The pass is NOT valid for:
- Reserved or non-reserved seat on NOZOMI”and “IZUHO trains on the Tokaido, Sanyo and Kyushu Shinkansen lines.
- Express bus routes operated by JR Bus.
- Hydrofoil ferry service operated by JR-KYUSHU between Hakata and Pusan (Korea).
- No additional fee is required when reserving seats for Ordinary cars.
- Non-reserved Ordinary cars can be accessed freely.
- No extra charge applies when using a Green Car pass.
- Additional fees & seperate tickets are required if traveling by NOZOMI or MIZUHO train which include basic fare, limited express charge and Green Car* surcharge.
*The Green Car is a first-class car with wider seats and other upgrades/amenities. - Additional fees & seperate tickets will be applicable for DX Green Car, Premium Green Car, GranClass Car, as well as the limited or regular express service.
- Reserved seat tickets can be reserved at a green ticket-vending machine or a station ticket office.

- Travel on trains outside of the designated coverage area of your pass is subject to an additional fee/charge(Basic fare, limited express charge and Green Car surcharge).
- The pass does not allow changing seat to a reserved seat or sleeping car after boarding.
- The pass cannot be reissued in the event that it is lost or stolen.
- The pass can be used only within its periods of use.
- Depending on the train car or railway section, if there are restrictions in place on the maximum number of seats, it may not be possible to secure designed reserved seats even if there is a vacancy.
- Unavailable seats due to full occupancy shall not be subject to refunds.
- The routes covered by the PASS are subject to change.
- It is a personal pass. Make sure to bring your passport when using the Pass as station and train staff may check it.
- The starting date of the rail pass and the duration cannot be changed after purchasing.
- Adult / Child rail pass holder can accompany up to 2 infants (1-5 years old) for free.
- The infants from the third one will require Child's rail passes for each.
- Babies aged under 1 year old can be accompanied for free.
- Child's rail passes will be required for each infant in the following situations:
*When accompanied infants use Reserved seats by themselves
*When infants travel by themselves
