JR Sanyo San’in (山陽山陰) Area Pass is a rail pass exclusive for foreign tourists, providing 7 consecutive days of unlimited train rides with reserved seats from Kansai and Fukuoka to Okayama, Hiroshima, Yamaguchi, Tottori and Shimane. The pass is applicable for Sanyo Shinkansen(between Shin-Osaka and Hakata), Hello Kitty Shinkansen, limited express trains(include Haruka, Kuroshio, Thunderbird, Kounotori, Yakumo, Super Hakuto(including Kamigori-Chizu), Super Inaba and other more), special rapid services, rapid services, local trains on JR West conventional lines, JR West Miyajima Ferry (between Miyajimaguchi and Miyajima) and West Japan JR buses within the valid routes(exclude expressway buses). The pass is not applicable for Tokaido Shinkansen (between Shin-Osaka-Tokyo), Kyushu Shinkansen (between Hakata and Kagoshima-Chuo) and the special rapid "A Seat" paid seating service.

- Eligible for foreign tourist entering in Japan as a "Temporay Visitor" for sight-seeing, and has a passport(issued by a foreign government) stamped with status under “Temporary Visitor”.
- Please note that according to strict interpretation of the Japanese Immigration Law, “Temporary visitor” status differs even from other types of stays that are also for only short time periods.
- Japanese passport holders can NOT use this pass. (May require to present passport and documents for verification purpose)
- ONLY allowed for original Exchange Orders which have not activated are allowed for refund within 12 months from the issuance date. Exchange order is totally non-refundable once exchanged and used.
The refund process will take approximately 2 months or more to be completed.
The activation date of the pass, once the pass has been obtained, can no longer be changed.

★Customers arriving at Yonago Airport who need to exchange thier MCO or E-ticket must travel to either Sakaiminato or Yonago station.
The pass is valid for :
- Reserved seats on SANYO SHINKANSEN (between Shin-Osaka and Hakata) *The pass can be used for "Hello Kitty Shinkansen".
- Reserved seats on The Limited Express trains (HARUKA, KUROSHIO, THUNDERBIRD, KOUNOTORI, YAKUMO, SUPER HAKUTO (including Kamigori⇔Chizu), SUPER INABA, etc.)
- Reserved seats on Special Rapid Services, Rapid Services, and Local trains on JR-WEST Conventional lines
- JR WEST MIYAJIMA FERRY (between Miyajimaguchi and Miyajima) *Other ferry will not be valid.
- WEST JAPAN JR BUS route buses within the valid area (the pass cannot be used on expressway buses).
The pass is NOT valid for:
- Bullet Train “TOKAIDO SHINKANSEN” (between Shin-Osaka & Tokyo)
- Bullet Train “KYUSHU SHINKANSEN” (between Hakata & Kagoshima-Chuo)
- The Special Rapid "A Seat" paid seating Service (Separate charges apply)
- No additional fee is required when reserving seats for Ordinary cars.
- Non-reserved Ordinary cars can be accessed freely.
- Additional fees and seperate tickets are required if traveling by express train, bullet-train and local services under first class (Green cars).
- Separate charges will apply if using carriages / trains that require numbered or liner tickets.
- Reserved Seating Tickets can be reserved at a green ticket-vending machine or a station ticket office.

* Seats must be reserved at the JR ticket office from the 7th booking. - Unavailable seats due to full occupancy shall not be subject to refunds.
- It is a personal pass. Make sure to bring your passport when using the Pass as station and train staff may check it.
- The starting date of the rail pass and the duration cannot be changed after purchasing.
- Adult / Child rail pass holder can accompany up to 2 infants (1-5 years old) for free.
- The infants from the third one will require Child's rail passes for each.
- Babies aged under 1 year old can be accompanied for free.
- Child's rail passes will be required for each infant in the following situations:
*When accompanied infants use Reserved seats by themselves
*When infants travel by themselves
