JR East Tohoku Area Rail Pass provides five consecutive (5) days of unlimited travel on trains and Shinkansen in the area covered! This rail pass is recommended if you (1) want to go by Shinkansen to Tohoku and enjoy Zao Fox Village and other places around Sendai; (2) want to go further and explore multiple different areas using the Shinkansen, such as Yamagata Zao, Akita Shirakami, and Aomori Oirase; and (3) want to enjoy travelling to places in and around Tokyo, such as Shinjuku, Akihabara, and Kamakura.

Note that you can can use not only JR EAST lines but also other local railways such as TOKYO monorail, IZUKYU and some local railways and buses as well.

  • Eligible for any foreign tourist with a non-Japanese passport.
  • Even if you are residing in Japan, you can use this pass too as long as you have a non-Japanese passport!
  • Japanese passport holders can NOT use this pass. (May require to present passport and documents for verification purpose)
  • ONLY allowed for original Exchange Orders which have not activated are allowed for refund within 12 months from the issuance date. Exchange order is totally non-refundable once exchanged and used.
    The refund process will take approximately 2 months or more to be completed.

  • Adult / Child rail pass holder can accompany up to 2 infants (1-5 years old) for free.
  • The infants from the third one will require Child's rail passes for each.
  • Babies aged under 1 year old can be accompanied for free.
  • Child's rail passes will be required for each infant in the following situations:
    *When accompanied infants use Reserved seats by themselves
    *When infants travel by themselves
