Continue to Kochi Castle (高知城) for a photostop. The city’s 400-year-old castle is the only one in Japan where the tower and main are original and intact. During the Edo period, the main tower was not only used for military purposes but also as a residence, which is atypical for most castles. The castle’s wooden interior remains the same and the lookout point from the top floor offers a nice view of downtown Kochi.

Wrap up your sightseeing with a stroll through Hirome Market (ひろめ市場), a lively local food hall packed with fresh seafood, snacks and local delicacies. Afterwards, transfer to hotel for check-in and dinner.

Day 4 Kochi – Oboke – Iya 高知 – 大歩危 – 祖谷

This morning, begin your journey into the hidden valleys of Shikoku with a serene Oboke Gorge Cruise (大歩危峡観光遊覧船) 🍁. Recline on traditional tatami mats as you glide along emerald-green waters surrounded by dramatic cliffs and vibrant autumn foliage.

After the cruise, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing your adventure into the Iya Valley. Visit the iconic Kazurabashi Bridge (祖谷のかずら橋), a historic vine suspension bridge once used by mountain villagers. Crossing the gently swaying bridge offers both excitement and incredible views of the gorge below.

Next, explore the intriguing Nagoro Village (名頃村), famously known as the “Village of Dolls.” This tiny hamlet is filled with life-sized scarecrow-like dolls placed throughout the town, representing former residents and telling a unique story of rural life in Japan. Finally, transfer to hotel for check-in and dinner.

Following that, transfer to Takamatsu for hotel check-in. Dinner will be served at the hotel or a local restaurant to conclude your enriching day.

Begin with a visit to the enchanting Angel Road (エンジェルロード), a narrow sandbar that appears during low tide and connects several small islands—perfect for a romantic stroll or scenic photo spot.

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before visiting Michi-no-Eki Olive Park (道の駅 小豆島オリーブ公園), where you can see olive groves, Greek-style architecture, and even try olive-based products. Then, head to the Kankakei Gorge Ropeway (寒霞渓ロープウェイ) for panoramic views of one of Japan’s most beautiful gorges, especially stunning in autumn.

After a day of sightseeing, return to Takamatsu by ferry, and continue by coach to Tokushima for hotel check-in and dinner.

Continue your journey to Maiko Kaikyō Promenade (舞子海上プロムナード), a glass-floored walkway suspended beneath the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge —the world’s longest suspension bridge—offering thrilling views over the water.
