After breakfast, visit Hokumon Shrine (北門神社). The northernmost shrine in Japan serves about 18,000 households and is said to promote fertility. The shrine offers unique omikuji that come in crab-shaped holders. Next, head to Northern Breakwater Dome (稚内港北防波堤ドーム). One of the iconic buildings of Wakkanai Port, it was built to prevent accidents caused by frequent tidal waves, the pattern is reminiscent of ancient Roman architecture.
GRP 1:
Thereafter, we will take the ferry to Rishiri Island and enjoy your lunch [Seafood Menu] at a local restaurant upon arrival. After lunch, we will explore the island on a short hike. The first stop is Himenuma (姫沼), a man-made pond at the foot of Mt. Rishiri that is popular for its clear reflection of the mountain. Another pond we will be visiting is Otatomari-numa (オタトマリ沼). It offers a different view of the mountain as a splendid backdrop. Lastly, Senhoshi Misaki Park (仙法志御崎公園). You will get incredible views of the clear sea and imposing mountain with an abundance of unique rocks that formed after a volcanic eruption. Along the shore, you might be able to feed seals and see wild kelp and sea urchins. We will also visit Northern Canary Park (北方金絲雀公園), the park was used as a filming location for the Japanese movie ‘Canaries of the North’ and inside the school building built for the movie, you can find anecdotes from the movie. Here, you will also enjoy the breathtaking views of Rishiri Island, which appears to float serenely on the sea. Finally, transfer to the hotel and check-in. Tonight, dinner [Japanese Cuisine] will be served at the hotel restaurant.
GRP 2 & 3:
We will board the ferry to Rebun Island. This afternoon, your lunch [Sea Urchin/Seafood Bowl] will be served at a local restaurant. After lunch, we will explore Cape Sukai and Cape Sukoton, the northernmost cape of Rebun Island and is the island's most scenic spot where the cliffs of the coast form the cape itself. At the Momodai-Nekodai Observatory, you will get a great view of oddly shaped rocks towering over the beautiful ocean, as well as the rich flora such as alpine flowers, which are in full bloom during your visit! Finally, transfer to the hotel for check-in and dinner [Japanese Cuisine].
